WARD/DURNIL - Born near Mooresville, Morgan County, Indiana in 1839, Hannah Marilla was the daughter of William and Rebecca Riatt Ward. William and Rebecca were married in Morgan County in 1837 - Rebecca's parents were Joseph and Hanna Cox Hiatt, Quakers who had moved to Indiana from Ohio about 1815.

The Ward's moved "west" into Jefferson County, Iowa in the mid-I 840s. It was while living in Iowa that Hannah met and married Thomas J. Durnil. They had two boys: William, who died in infancy and James B.They moved to Coffey County, Kansas early in the 1860s where Thomas died in 1864 of wounds suffered in the Civil War.

Known children of James B. Dumil are: Mrs. Esther Brazeal, Artesia, CA: Harold Durnil, Long Beach, CA: and Gerald Durnil of Houston, TX (as of 1967).

Hannah Durnil married Robert B. Inman in 1866; they lived in Kansas until moving to the Norwood vicinity in 1892, where they remained until death. They are buried in Mt. Herman Cemetery, south of Norwood.
