CHARLIE ROY BOWEN

Charlie Roy Bowen, the son of George and Luizy Belle (Stephens) Bowen (see Vol. I), was born Sept. 23, 1907, in Texas County. He married Hazel Inman Jan. 6, 1930, at Houston, MO. Hazel was born Sept. 28, 1910, at Tyrone, MO, to Lewis Jeremiah Inman  and Josephine (Trimble) Inman. To, this couple were born 13 children: Homer, b. Jan. 6, 1931, at Potter, KS, married Beulah Harden; George, b. June 20, 1932, married Nancy Gill; Hershel, b. May 24, 1934, married Nora Hatten; Bobby, b. and d. 1936; Helen, b. and d. 1937; Howard, b. and d. 1938; Donald, b. July 15, 1939, married Cecelia (Evans) Portenier; Jocye, b. Sept. 13, 1941, married Walter Overton; Ralph, b. July 25, 1943, married Margaret Bryant; all born on Jack's Fork in Texas County. Linda, b. May 25, 1945, Kansas City, married Michael Harris; Dennis, b. Apr.25, 1947, Atchison, KS, married Gale Lonjers; baby boy, b. and d. 1948; Harold, b. Sept.30, 1949, Atchison, married Sandra Cadue.

Charlie farmed in Texas County until 1944 when they moved their family to Atchison, KS, to seek 'work during WWII where he ran a sawmill. Most of the family remained in that area. Their fond memories were of the days spent on the home place on Jack's Fork and attending Liberty School.

Charlie died June 19, 1988. Hazel died Oct. 2, 1988. Both are buried at Atchison, KS. The four babies are buried in the Clear Springs Cemetery in Texas County.
