From Declaration For Widow's Pension:
State of Texas County of Wise, ss:

On this 20?/26? day of December A.D. 1900. . .Mrs. Mary C. McGeehee (sic), aged 56 years, a resident of Alvord, County of Wise State of Texas. . .that
she is the widow of John McGehee (sic), who was enrolled under the name of John McGehee at _______(blank) on the 1 day of December, 1862 as a Pvt. in
Co. C--2nd Ark Inf. Vols.. . . and was honorably discharged on the 8 day of August 1865 and who died at Western Branch of National Home for Disabled
Soldiers at Leavenworth, Kansas on the 7 day of February 1898.

That she was married under the name of Mary C. Gasperson to said soldier at Lawrence Co., MO on the 2nd of November 1872 by Brass Patton; that there was
no legal barrier to the marriage and that she had been previously married; that the soldier had not been previously married. 

Claimant's former husband died in Lawrence Co., MO about last of October 1871.

From another sheet in file dated October the 3 1916---(partially typed, partially handwritten):

I am 72 years of age , having been born in Franklin Co., MO, 1844, at Abnion? Post Office. my memory isnt Good have almost forgot I am entitled to the increase of pension provided by the first section of the Act of September 8, 1916

Another sheet gives the information that Mary C. McGehee died December 13, 1916; signed by L. E. Tibbets of Alvord, TX, & Edd Collins of Alvord, TX.

From Statement of Attending Physicians:

nature of disease from which pensioner died: "Old age and Rheumatism Suffered for last 20 years with Arthritis Deforment"

(On the cover sheet of NARA records, John's name is spelled McGee. Probably neither he nor Mary could write, they always signed with an "x".)
