  • His strong late season run resulted in his first SENIOR PGA TOUR victory at the Pacific Bell Senior Classic
  • T6 the following week at the Energizer SENIOR TOUR Championship
  • It appeared he would not crack the top 31 heading into the final full-field event of the season
  • Was 42nd on the money list and needed a victory to earn a spot in Myrtle Beach
  • After firing rounds of 66-68-68, he was a one-stroke winner over Lee Trevino at Wilshire CC, making birdie on three of the last five holes to earn the $165,000 first prize, the largest of his career
  • His best previous finish prior to his win was a T3 at the Bank Boston Classic (tied for lead with Hale Irwin after 36 holes)
  • Picked up over a quarter of a million in his last two events that left him in 26th place with $653,902
